Revitalizing Waqf is Our Main Goal
Awqaf (Mauritius) Foundation is a Charitable Foundation, duly registered under the Foundations Act 2012 since 21 November 2022, with the primary objective of promoting and revitalizing the concept of Waqf in Mauritius and the region. It is managed by a five-member Foundation Council and its secretary is an approved-person of the Financial Services Commission.
Awqaf (Mauritius) Foundation is a pioneer community-based organization, dedicated to the establishment of the institution of waqf and the empowerment of communities.
Awqaf (Mauritius) Foundation is a charitable endowment (waqf) reviving organization. It invests endowment funds and spends only the income generated from investments to fund a variety of community development projects and programmes promoting Integrated and Sustainable Community Development and Self-Reliance.
Awqaf (Mauritius) Foundation works in close collaboration with Awqaf South Africa and similar organizations worldwide.

Our Mission
- Create, manage, invest and develop waqf and charitable endowment funds and assets as means of providing ethical and sustainable funding solutions.
- Advocacy, education, popularisation, and proliferation of the waqf system.
- Mobilisation, training, and engagement of human resources for voluntary community service.
- Initiation and/or contribution to worthwhile sustainable humanitarian, community development and poverty alleviation projects and programmes.

Shari’ah Advisory Committee
The Shari’ah Advisory Committee ensures that projects and activities carried out by Awqaf (Mauritius) Foundation are in line with Shari’ah principles. It consists of one Council member well versed in Islamic economics and finance and two independent Islamic scholars with relevant expertise in Shari’ah and Islamic finance. It acts as a consultative body and provides advice as and when required.
Finance and Investment Committee
The Finance and Investment Committee is responsible for fundraising, identifying investment opportunities and ensuring that investments made are Shari’ah-compliant. It consists of a maximum of five members, including two Council members and three independent members with relevant expertise.
Audit and Governance Committee
The Audit and Governance Committee ensures that all financial transactions are made in compliance with Awqaf (Mauritius) Foundation’s Charter. It also ensures good governance and transparency. It consists of a maximum of five members, including the Secretary of the Council.
